2008 volkswagen jetta review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. More power, wagon available. introductionwe haven't heard much lately about fahrvergnugen, that difficult-to-define germanic character that supposedly separated volkswagens from other moderately priced cars. The sportwagen adds flexibility without a larger footprint or any compromise in fahrvergnugen or efficiency. Later in 2008, the 2009 jetta tdi will appear, with the fuel economy of a hybrid and the flexibility of a wagon.  the jetta is more potent for 2008, with 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque (compared to 150 hp and 170 lb-ft in 2007). Its 2. 5-liter five-cylinder engine is pleasantly robust, with a broad power curve and a raspy sound, and delivers an epa-estimated 21/29 mpg city/highway. The jetta is responsive around town and comfortable on long trips. Here's where volkswagen's attention to detail is particularly convincing. The driver enjoys excellent visibility and ease of operation, with logical controls and instruments. All models come with a full array of safety features. Finish quality is good, inside and out; and the trunk is larger than in many sedans costing much more. So at just under $17,000, the jetta is a compelling buy.  the jetta was redesigned and re-engineered from the ground up midway through 2005, and it still seems fresh. We find its styling more pleasant than exciting. A 2. 5-liter inline five-cylinder engine generates 170 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic with tiptronic sport mode are available.  jetta s 16,990) comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power windows, power locks with remote, cruise control, asr traction control, cd player, eight-way manually adjustable front seats with lumbar support and new power recliners, split folding rear seat, manual tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, and 205/55hr all-season tires on 16-inch steel wheels. The se comes with the manual or automatic 20,925).  jetta sel 22,900) adds a multi-function steering wheel, premium instrument display, premium audio, a 115-volt power outlet in the rear of the console, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The six-speed automatic is the only transmission available.  the jetta gli 24,300) is motivated by a 2. 0-liter turbocharged and intercooled inline-4 packing 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard; there's also a six-speed dsg (direct shift gear) transmission that operates in manual or automatic mode 25,375). Suspension and brakes are beefed up appropriately. Inside are eight-way adjustable sport bucket seats, a flat-bottom padded steering wheel, and lots of aluminum and bright-metal trim. Auto-leveling, high-intensity xenon headlights are also standard, as are esp/edl, and 225/45 all-season or summer-performance tires (no charge either way) on 17-inch alloy rims. The autobahn package 3,020) adds a power sunroof, leather seats (with heat and power lumbar support in front), heated washer nozzles, and a premium audio system. Eighteen-inch wheels with 225/40r18 all-season 750) or summer-performance 890) tires are available.  the wolfsburg edition 2. 0t is powered by the same engine as the gli and the same six-speed manual 20,875) or six-speed dsg transmission 21,950). Seats are leatherette, and wheels are 17-inch alloys. Sportwagen options include a panoramic sunroof and a fold-flat right front seat for long loads.  safety features that come standard include front airbags, front passenger side-impact airbags for torso protection, and curtain-style airbags for head protection front and rear. All jettas have anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), brake assist, and traction control (asr). Roadside assistance is included in the jetta warranty package. walkaroundthe volkswagen jetta is a mid-size sedan. It was completely redesigned for the 2005 model year, the gli was added for 2006, and the sportwagen joined the lineup for 2008.  compared to the pre-2005 jetta, the current generation has a longer wheelbase and wider track and is the biggest jetta ever. It's also the heaviest, tipping the scales at 3,200 pounds. That extra mass was put to good use, however, with greatly improved structural rigidity, a larger trunk and more interior room, particularly for rear seat passengers.  when looking at the jetta, the eye is immediately drawn to its big, chrome-framed front grille. Chrome is also used in the eyebrows atop the air inlets in the front bumper and, on the se and sel, for the side-window surrounds.  the next most striking design element is the aggressive thrust and slope of the hood and snout. Compared to other recent nose-forward designs, the jetta's composite headlights and various inlets and grilles are well integrated into the raked rearward flow of its form. A striking vee, created by the slant of the headlamps and sloping hood lines, is carried strongly toward the rear by the steeply raked windshield and character lines running along the flanks.  the tail is a major departure from previous jetta styling. Larger tail light clusters, now divided between the trunk and rear fender, help widen the proportion of the car's hindquarters in relation to its height, giving it a more substantial, less boxy-looking stern. The round tail lights and brake lights have been singled out as the new jetta's most derivative design statement. Tail lamps wrap well into the rear side panels but no lights are in the hatch so rear visibility is not compromised loading in the dark.  in addition to their 17-inch wheels, sel models are distinguished by body-colored valences front and rear. More distinctive is the gli, with a blacked-out honeycomb grille underlined by a red-pinstripe smile, and foglights integrated into matching honeycomb panels in the lower fascia. Lower body trim is blacked out all around, and red brake calipers show through visually massive five-spoke alloy wheels. interiorvolkswagen and audi interiors are often the benchmark for other manufacturers because their designers accomplish more with less, combining expensive-looking materials with simple, attractive styling and excellent ergonomics. The result tends to be inviting cabins that are pleasant places to spend time. The seats are easy to adjust with manual controls, and the adjustable steering column and height-adjustable safety belt help drivers of all sizes get comfortable. The thick-rimmed, three-spoke steering wheel frames a gauge cluster dominated by separate, large dials for the tachometer and speedometer, well shaded from ambient light by a curved cowl. In daylight the graphics read white on black, at night changing to white on soothing swimming-pool blue with lighted red pointers. In either case, the data are easy to comprehend at a glance. Within the tachometer and speedometer are warning lights and advisories about secondary functions, including one thoughtful warning that the fuel filler door was left opened after refueling.    a large electronic message pad sits dead center, just over the water temperature and fuel gauges. In addition to more warning and diagnostic symbols, on sel and gli this display includes trip comp.

2010 nissan versa review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Versatile, roomy and easy on the budget. introductionthe nissan versa is a nimble subcompact with comfort, performance, versatility, and generous interior space. It's easy on the budget to buy and easy on the budget to operate. The 2010 versa features fresh styling and an upgraded interior.  the versa is a big and roomy inside with decent head room and leg room and lots of hip room, making it a good choice for larger drivers. Its big, cushy seats are comfortable. Back-seat passengers will find rear-seat leg room as good as that in larger cars and suvs. All three are subcompacts designed with tall rooflines for increased interior comfort and visibility. All models have a new grille and wheels, and revised interior fabrics and finishes. The sl hatchback model gets sport front and rear fascias, body side sills, fog lights, and rear spoiler as standard equipment. An optional navigation system is being offered. Other changes for 2010 include auxiliary input added to the base audio system; interface system for ipod added to the upgraded radio.  most models come with a 1. 8-liter engine, though the stripper sedan model comes with a 1. 6-liter engine.  fuel economy for the nissan versa depends on the powertrain. Best is the versa sl with cvt (continuously variable transmission) with an epa-estimated 28/34 mpg city/highway. It comes with air conditioning (which can be deleted for a savings of $1,000), pre-wiring for audio. Anti-lock brakes are optional 250). The hatchback features a 60/40 split folding rear seat. Options include a power plus package 930) with power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, cruise control, door armrest pads, rear-door map pockets, and automatic door locks; and vehicle dynamic control with traction control 370).  versa sl sedan 16,100) and sl hatchback 16,530) are fitted with the xtronic continuously variable transmission (cvt). Versa sl models are upgraded with premium woven seat fabric, a more adjustable driver's seat, split folding rear seats, center armrests front and rear, the power plus package, a 180-watt stereo with an in-dash six-cd changer and mp3 capability, and 15-inch machined alloy wheels.  a convenience package for the versa sl sedan 650) includes an intelligent key system, bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. A premium package for the sl hatchback 980) includes everything from the convenience package plus 16-inch alloy wheels. A moonroof package 600) for the sl hatchback adds a power glass sunroof and illuminated visor vanity mirrors. Both sl models are also available with the nav/sat radio 610), which includes a navigation system with five-inch screen and xm satellite radio.  accessories include splash guards 110), floor mats 155), auto-dimming inside mirror 125), and aluminum kick plates 130). A rear roof spoiler 250) and a new cargo organizer 160) can be added to the hatchback.  safety features include frontal airbags, side-impact airbags, roof-mounted curtain airbags, front-seat active head restraints, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Anti-lock brakes (abs) with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) are standard on the s and sl trim levels and an option 250) on the base model. walkaroundthe nissan versa looks bigger than it is. The sl hatchback, with its front spoiler below the bumper, has a more aggressive and sporty look.  at the rear ends of the sedan and hatchback things are, expectedly, much different. With the hatchback, the side edges of the tailgate angle sharply inward to clear the cat's-eye taillights. With the sedan, the taillights are different but the trunk lid still angles inward. We like the hatchback a little better, especially the sl version with its roof-mounted spoiler.  the sedan is nearly seven inches longer than the hatchback and has a more conventional rear end, with a trunk. The sedan is handsome enough, with its long, tapering sail panels.  we find the hatchback more appealing. We like its distinctive styling and it's more versatile than the sedan. interiorthe huge front seats in the nissan versa are roomy and comfortable. As with the other cars in this class, the versa driver gets lots of legroom and headroom. In terms of hip room, however, the versa is a real standout. The width and the substantial structure of the front seats may make the versa a great choice among subcompacts for big drivers. The cloth-covered seats are comfortable without being too soft and offer plenty of side support.  the back seat is particularly impressive. Even a six-footer shouldn't feel cramped as the rear seat legroom is at or near the top of the class. No hard plastics here.  the instrument pod contains three large, well-recessed gauges that are easy to read. The speedometer takes pride of place in the center and almost seems as if it is floating over the other two gauges.  controls for the dash mounted radio and cd changer are well integrated into the center stack, and although they are not very large they are easy to see and comprehend. There is a large volume knob in the center with a very visible power button. Three functional, conventional knobs operate the climate control system. All in all there's nothing fancy about any of the controls, although everything looks well finished. Two large cupholders are conveniently located under the center stack.  the optional intelligent key allows for keyless starting of the engine, something that up until now has only been available in luxury cars. We don't recommend it. Tow truck operators tell us they get a lot of calls dealing with keyless starting systems. And we don't find them a big benefit.  cargo versatility is a strong point for the hatchback. There's a generous 17. 8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place. Versa sl with cvt, or continuously variable transmission, gets an epa-estimated 28/34 mpg city/highway. Nissan has been a standout in cvt technology. In addition to delivering exceptional fuel economy, it's very smooth and most drivers probably won't notice it's anything other than a regular automatic.  a cvt doesn't shift gears like an automatic transmission. Instead, a segmented belt rides up and down on cone-shaped pulleys to vary the speed ratio between the engine and the drivetrain. It works more efficiently than a traditional automatic, which is why the versa equipped with a cvt delivers such good highway mileage. Around town it has the same economy as a manual transmission, better than an automatic, in other words.  we've been pleased with the versa. It has plenty of zip and there's no problem merging into traffic on a fast free-flowing freeway. We found it not unpleasant. In regular stop-and-go traffic under slow acceleration there is no sensation other than the car moving forward smoothly with no sound or feel of shifting gears.

2012 chevrolet cruze review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Improved fuel economy. introductionthe chevrolet cruze is an excellent choice among compact sedans. It's the best small car gm has offered in north america in decades. More important, it's among the best cars in its class.  fuel economy is improved for 2012, and the list of standard equipment has grown longer, especially in the mid-range lt level. Otherwise, the 2012 chevrolet cruze is unchanged from 2011.  launched as a 2011 model, the cruze replaced the sturdy but boring cobalt, and represented a great leap forward in technology, features and appeal. The cruze was developed jointly by gm tech centers in asia, europe and the united states to battle compact competitors such as the hyundai elantra and kia forte, the best volkswagen jetta in years, and perennial leaders like the honda civic, mazda 3, and toyota corolla. By the quality of materials, fit or function, it surpasses nearly all its competitors. As with most cars in this class, the cruze is front-wheel drive. Both the manual and automatic are 6-speed-transmissions, which is rare in this class. With the 1. 8-liter engine the government rates it 25/36 mpg with the manual, 22/35 mpg with the automatic. The 2012 chevrolet cruze eco rates 28/42 mpg with the manual, 26/39 mpg with the automatic.  the chevrolet cruze might be the smoothest, quietest compact offered in the united states. Ride quality is outstanding, yet the car is nimble, balanced and handles exceptionally well. Its steering is powered by electricity to save fuel. Underway, the steering feels sharp, with decent feel. The cruze comes standard with a long list of safety features, including advanced electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, and a full complement of 10 airbags. There are knee-protection airbags for front passengers, side-impact airbags for rear passengers, and head-protection curtains with rollover deployment. Every cruze comes with gm's onstar telematics system, including a six-month subscription for automatic accident response and other services, a great safety feature.  among the 2012 cruze models, the cruze eco delivers the best fuel economy. Its aerodynamic features, including grille vanes that close at highway speeds, help it slip through the air more easily, and it weighs more than 200 pounds less than other models. To achieve its superb fuel economy, however, the cruze eco sacrifices performance, resulting in slower acceleration, longer stopping distances, and poorer handling than the other cruze models.  the cruze ltz comes swathed in leather and loaded with technology. The cruze ltz is available with a full-feature navigation system, rear park assist, concierge services, premium pioneer audio and remote starting. For that kind of money, the alternatives include larger, very nicely equipped midsize sedans such as the ford fusion, honda accord, hyundai sonata or nissan altima. Cruze ls comes with air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, floor mats, and six-speaker audio with single cd, an auxiliary jack and xm satellite radio. The standard wheels are 16-inch steel.  cruze eco 19,245) is optimized for fuel economy. It's powered by a smaller, 1. 4-liter turbocharged engine that delivers the same 138 hp as the base engine, with an increase in torque to 148 lb-ft. It's lighter than other cruze models, with aerodynamic aids that make in slipperier through the air, and low-rolling-resistance tires on 17-inch alloy wheels. The 2012 cruze eco comes with bluetooth phone connectivity, usb port, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, cruise control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.  cruise lt 18,475) is powered by the same frugal turbocharged engine plus body-color power side mirrors and all the new goodies that have been added to the cruze eco. Sixteen-inch machined-face alloy wheels are standard on 2012 cruze lt models. The 2012 cruze ltz also comes standard with fog lights, keyless entry and keyless start.  cruze rs is an ltz with an rs appearance package 595), which includes unique bumpers, rocker moldings, and a rear spoiler. A similar package for the lt2 695) adds all that plus fog lights and racier instruments. Navigation 995) is available for lt2, ltz, and eco. Other options include a 250-watt pioneer audio system with nine speakers 445), a power sunroof 900). The eco and lt1 can be spruced up with a driver convenience package 495) that includes a six-way power driver's seat, rear park assist, and remote start. (all prices are manufacturer's suggested retail prices, which do not include destination charge and may change at any time without notice.)  safety features include front, side-impact and knee-protection airbags for front passengers, rear side-impact airbags and full cabin head-protection curtains with rollover deployment. Gm's onstar telematics are standard, with automatic crash response and other services free for six months. Other standard safety features include stabiltrack electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes (abs), front seatbelt pretensioners, daytime running lights (drls) and the federally mandated tire-pressure monitor. walkaroundthe styling of the chevrolet cruze is handsome and nicely proportioned.  the cruze is large, as compact cars go. Measuring 181. 0 inches bumper-to-bumper, on a wheelbase of 105. 7 inches, the cruze is slightly larger than most of its competitors, including the honda civic, toyota corolla, and the all-new 2012 ford focus.  cruze is more angular than other recent chevrolet sedans, including the popular malibu. Its front end mimics the volt plug-in sedan with a prominent chevrolet bowtie logo. The headlight housings are large, sweeping upward and around the front edges of the car.  the roofline arcs subtly from its steeply raked windshield through fast-sloping rear pillars, creating a generally sporty profile. Its wheels are pushed out to the corners of the car, with minimal overhang. No, this compact sedan doesn't break new ground or wow with its curves. But it's tidy and quite confidant looking, and the package generates a feeling of quality and solidity. Wheels range from 16-inch steel with plastic covers on the base ls to spoked 18-inch alloys with low-profile tires on the loaded ltz.  the cruze eco is a slightly different beast, because it's designed to be chevrolet's conventional-engine fuel economy leader. The differences start with 42 steps intended to trim weight, right down the size and location of welds in the body. As a result, the eco tips the scales at 3,009 pounds, or 214 pounds less than the mid-level cruze lt. Cruze eco adds a host of aerodynamic tweaks, including some adapted from the chevrolet volt. These start with active grille shutters that close at higher speeds, blocking much of the grille surface when the cooling demands of the engine allow it, and smoothing air flow over the front of the car. The eco also sports a lower front air-dam extension, plastic panels that cover large portions of the underbody and a carefully crafted rear spoiler. It's finished with low-rolling-resistance tires on specially designed rims. That means a bit less braking performance or grip through the corners, but it also means less friction when the eco is cruising along for better fuel economy. interiorthe chevrolet cruze is roomy inside, with ample dimensions in most directions. The cabin is finished nicely with quality materials. Sound deadening measures result in quiet operation. Overall, the cruze cabin delivers an excellent balance of quality, coziness and space to breathe.  cruze is near the top of the class for the look, fit and feel of the materials inside. The seams join with tighter tolerances than those in many other cars, including some of those a class or two above. The textiles and plastics are rich, appealing and nicely grained, and the metallic trim looks good. The fabric used for the door inserts matches that used on the seat.

2002 bmw 3 series review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The 3 series is composed of sedans, coupes, convertibles, and wagons. They vary in price, power, and packaging, but all are superb cars. Each is a great driver's car within its respective price range.  all 3 series models are highly refined machines that corner, accelerate and stop swiftly. These cars put drivers in touch with the road instead of isolating them. Their interiors are well-equipped and comfortable.  styling revisions freshen the sedans and sport wagons for 2002.  it shouldn't be a surprise that the bmw 3 series continues to serve as a benchmark for other automakers. lineupthe current generation of 3 series cars debuted in 1999 and has since grown to 10 models. All 3 series models are based on the same chassis and all ride on the same 107. 3-inch wheelbase. As the nomenclature indicates, 325 models get a 2. 5-liter engine, while 330 models get a 3. 0-liter engine. Wagons are only available with the 2. 5-liter engine; sedan, coupe, and convertible are available with either engine.  the 184-horsepower 2. 5-liter engine is used in the 325i sedan 27,100); 325i sport wagon 29,500); 325ci coupe 29,100); 325ci convertible 36,100).  the 225-horsepower 3. 0-liter engine is used in the 330i sedan 33,990); 330ci coupe 34,990); and 330ci convertible 42,400). In addition to the increased power, 330 models come with more standard equipment and design upgrades. One example: 17-inch wheels with v-rated tires in place of the 325's standard 16-inch wheels with h-rated tires.  all-wheel-drive 325xi 28,850) and 330xi 35,740) sedans and the 325xi sport wagon 31,250) offer much better traction and control in slippery conditions. For 2002, these all-wheel-drive models, denoted by the x, get hill descent control added to the upgraded dynamic stability control system.  the higher price of coupes and convertibles includes a slightly higher level of luxury equipment than what comes standard on sedans and wagons.  all models come standard with a five-speed manual transmission. Automatic transmissions are available: a superb zf-built five-speed steptronic 1275).  for 2002, bmw has added functions to the standard dynamic stability control system, including a new traction-control mode. New optional run-flat tires with a monitor are available for 330 models. Also optional are new wheel designs and 18-inch wheels and tires.  smart front and front side-impact airbags come standard. Also standard (on all but the convertibles) are head-protection airbags that deploy from the headliner along the length of both sides of the cabin. Rear side-impact airbags are optional.  which model? The sport wagons add space and versatility and the only way we could tell we weren't driving a sedan was to glance into the rear view mirror; it's taut. Coupes add sports appeal with their two-door styling, while split rear seats offer some versatility. The 330 models add a lot of performance to the equation. Bmw's park distance control 350) works great, beeping to warn the driver of objects behind the car during parking maneuvers.  related to the 3 series are the m3 coupe 45,900) and m3 convertible 53,900), which boast much higher levels of performance and handling. (look for separate review of the bmw m3 at newcartestdrive. Com.). walkaroundthe 3 series cars sport bmw's classic look. They look elegant and refined, but purposeful. The roofline is long and gracefully integrated into the short rear deck. These cars are striking in appearance with their bold grilles, exotic-looking headlamps, and short front and rear overhangs. Their wheels fill the fenders and the body work seems wrapped tight, like it's stretched over muscle. The 3 series sedans have the look of a true sports sedan. And the other models take full advantage of that.  traditional quad headlamps are enclosed in aerodynamic covers. For 2002, bmw has upgraded the optional xenon headlights to bi-xenon lights, which include both low and high beams. The outer lamps provide high-intensity discharge illumination on low and high beams, while the inner lamps augment the high beams with halogen lighting. Auto-leveling of the bi-xenon lamps is included.  introduced for model year 1999, the sedan was the first of this latest generation of 3 series cars; it shares its styling and most of its body work with the sport wagon. Subtle changes to the design of the 3 series sedans and sport wagons this year has freshened their appearance. Most people won't notice the differences, but park a new 3 series sedan or sport wagon next to a 2001 model and the details are readily apparent.  for 2002, the sedan and sport wagon feature redesigned front fascias, front and rear bumpers, grilles, headlamps, tail lamps, hoods, and fenders. Similar to the theme set by the new 7 series, the headlamps now tilt up at the trailing edges of the wraparounds rather than tilting down as they have traditionally. Bmw also redesigned the shape of the cutouts below the headlamps. When equipped with the aerodynamic package, the front fascia looks like more of an air dam than before with round integrated fog lamps instead of small, thin rectangular lights. This year the lower grille is split all the way across. Bumpers, front and rear, have been given a simpler, cleaner look and the taillight units' functional segments reapportioned to give the main taillights greater illuminated area. The grilles, continuing bmw's dual-kidneys tradition, have been widened. The hood's character lines now sweep outward and rearward from the grilles' upper outer corners back to the body's a-pillars. Front fenders are also modified, with more prominent wheel-opening flares that interrupt the side character lines for an additional element of design interest.  coupe and convertible models were introduced for 2000 with updated design cues and go into 2002 without any significant styling changes. Their headlamp cluster wraparounds taper down rather than up.  well-designed exterior door handles are easy to grab. interiorthe 3 series interior is designed for the serious driver. Power adjustments come standard on all models except 325i sedans. The manual controls on the 325i sedan work well, though they are best used when the car is stationary. The 10-way power seats that come with the optional sport package are superb, adding more side bolstering for winding roads, and slide-out thigh support.  the leather-covered steering wheel tilts and telescopes for optimum adjustment. Its slim design is a benefit of the latest in compact airbag packaging. Audio and speed controls on the steering wheel work well and add convenience. Two different steering wheels are used depending on body style and model.  dashboard and door panels are rich in appearance, and appealing to the eye. For 2002, a new titanium finish on the instrument panel, console, and doors comes standard. Genuine myrtle wood inserts are optional. The instruments themselves feature soft orange lighting, which help reduce glare at night; some people find orange instrument lighting easier on the eyes than other colors.  most switches fall intuitively to the driver's fingertips, but the 3 series interior is not without its faults. Window controls are located on the center console, requiring a glance down to open or close a windows. Having the controls on the doors would make them much easier to use. Auto up/auto down is available for all windows and the sunroof, which is a nice feature.  automatic climate control and a microfilter ventilation system are standard. For 2002, automatic headlamps are available.  the in-dash single-cd player that now comes standard is easy to operate; the previous cassette deck is available as a no-cost option. The harmon kardon stereo with 12 upgraded speakers sounds great. Available steering wheel audio controls work well and add convenience.  i don't particularly care for the center console. The flip down armrest is a bit in the way when shifting and unattractive shallow cup holders in the center console seem like an afterthought.  the back seat is roomy enough for two adults during a night on the town, but it's not as roomy as some of the other cars in its class. The trunk is small, and the trunk opening is even smaller. However, the cold weather package 1000) adds split fold-down rear seats with a ski boot and armrest, plus other features.  sport wagons seem the perfect solution for enthusiast drivers who need some cargo capacity. When the car is unlocked, the rear hatch can be opened by touching the electric release above the license plate; or just the rear glass can be opened by pressing a button under the rear wiper. The rear cargo cover is nicely designed with a vinyl panel that easily slides out and hooks into pl. Bucket Seats✔ Power Seats✔ Climate Control✔ CD Player✔ Sport Package✔ Sunroof/Moonroof

2008 chevrolet cobalt review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Built on a strong, stiff platform, it delivers crisp handling and a smooth ride. And with its expressive styling and all-around competence, the cobalt competes effectively against the honda civic, toyota corolla, and ford focus. Xm satellite radio is now standard, along with am/fm/cd stereo with an auxiliary input jack. Standard safety features now include head-curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitor. New for 2008 is standard xm satellite radio. These are still fairly basic models, though, with wind-up windows and manually operated mirrors. Tires are 195/60 on 15-inch steel wheels. And options are limited.  the lt 14,375) sedan and coupe get power windows and door locks, plus upgraded upholstery, adjustable lumbar support for the driver, and some other amenities. Lt's with the neutral interior color now feature woodgrain trim. Options expand to include cruise control 275), sunroof 750), six-disc cd changer 295), seven-speaker pioneer audio 295), remote vehicle starter 190, and requires automatic transmission), heated leather seats 695), and a leather-wrapped steering wheel 195).  an option package for lt called 2lt 1295) bundles abs; stabilitrak; color-keyed bodyside moldings; 205/55r16 tires on more stylish, plastic-faced wheels; cruise control; onstar; and a trunk cargo net.  replacing last year's sport package is the new performance appearance package 795), which includes a rear spoiler, 16-inch aluminum wheels, stainless steel exhaust with chrome tips, fog lamps, white-face gauges, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob. A new chrome exterior package is available on lt sedans and includes a chrome grille, bodyside moldings and door handles.    cobalt sport 18,875) replaces last year's cobalt ss. The sport comes in coupe and sedan body styles. In addition to the bigger engine, beefed-up chassis, abs brakes and stabilitrak, sport makes the seven-speaker stereo standard, along with a leather-wrapped shift knob and leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls. Otherwise, standard equipment and options are similar to the lt.  safety features include dual-stage front air bags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, rear center shoulder belts, and the latch child seat retention system. Head-curtain side airbags are now standard on all models, as is a tire pressure monitor. Sport and 2lt come with stabilitrak electronic stability control. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are also standard on sport and 2lt, optional 400) on 1lt and ls; the system includes traction control on cobalts with automatic transmission. Onstar is standard on 2lt and sport, and optional 295) on 1lt. For 2008 it includes the general motors advanced automatic crash notification (aacn) system, making crash data available to participating 911 centers to help them dispatch the appropriate live-saving personnel and equipment. walkaroundthe chevy cobalt is built on gm's delta platform, which it shares with the domestic saturn astra and european-market opel astra. But with its single-bar grille and bowtie emblem, cobalt looks like a proper chevrolet small car right down to its shoes and socks.  body panel fits are extremely tight. So tight, in fact, that there are no rubber trim gaskets around cobalt's compound complex headlamps.  the fastback coupe bears a resemblance to the cavalier it replaced in 2005, right down to its high, rounded tail and triangular rear quarter windows; though in fact cobalt shares little with its predecessor but its looks.  the cobalt sedan looks less like its curvier cavalier ancestor, and more like a contemporary small sedan, with a tall roofline and short, chunky tail.  the coupe weighs about 50 pounds less than the sedan, although it's doubtful anyone but a professional race driver would feel the difference on the road. Same for the sedan's slightly better front-to-rear balance: 59/41 vs. 60/40 for the coupe.    cobalt is longer, wider and lower than most of its direct competitors and its interior dimensions and trunk capacity are comparable for the class. interiorthe design theme inside the cobalt is simple and straightforward. Materials are decent and the fit and finish is good. Overall, it's comparable for the class. There's just enough chrome trim here and there on knobs and instruments to brighten things up without a lot of glare from the shiny parts. Instruments are large, well placed, and easy to read, with nice graphic treatment throughout.  cobalt uses different seats in the different trim levels, each with detail changes in foam, padding and trim. We found plenty of fore/aft and rake adjustment for a 6-foot, 4-inch driver, plus seat height adjustment with a ratcheting handle. The lt seats were very comfortable and grabbed us in the fast corners exactly where we needed to be grabbed and held. Even better were the optional leather-trimmed seats, which come with electric heat.  the available pioneer seven-speaker sound system with the delphi am/fm/cd delivers good sound and includes a huge subwoofer mounted on the left side trunk wall. For 2008, all cobalts now come with xm satellite radio.  the heating, ventilation and defroster system worked quickly and intuitively.  the ls comes with manually operated windows. The urethane steering wheel that comes on ls and lt models feels cheap. The leather-wrapped wheel that's standard on sport and optional on lt is much nicer.  rear-seat passengers pay a price for the coupe's sporty looks. Headroom, legroom, and hip room are reduced by 2 inches, 1. 5 inches, and 3. 5 inches, respectively; enough to make the difference between a comfortable place for adults and one best left to pre-adolescents. Cobalt does not use space-eating gooseneck hinges on its decklid, opting instead for simple outside corner hinges and two hydraulic assist struts. The coupe has an even smaller trunk opening, making it difficult to stow a thick suitcase. A 60/40-split, fold-down rear seat with a trunk pass-through feature adds utility to both sedan and coupe. driving impressionthe chevrolet cobalt is quite pleasant to drive, especially the sport model. It's quiet for a car that retails for less than $20,000. Chevrolet put considerable effort into special door seals, sandwich steel panels, thick carpets and pads, noise blockers and noise absorbers throughout the front, middle and rear of the car. As a result, normal front-seat conversation is possible at speeds above 90 mph.  the 2. 2-liter engine, which is rated at 148 horsepower is smooth, but does not feel powerful until it's revving high. The 171 developed by its 2. 4-liter engine is 16 percent more than the base engine produces. With 167 pound-feet of torque at 4500 rpm, the sport delivers only about 10 percent more torque than the base ls/lt. But then the 2. 4 has variable valve timing, which the 2. 2 does not, so the bigger engine should provide more flexibility across the whole rpm spectrum. That should make it easier to drive around town.  the downside of the sport's 2. 4-liter engine is that its slightly higher compression ratio (10. 4:1, vs. 10. 0) pushes it over the line to where it needs premium fuel to perfo. 2002 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This means the overall length and wheelbase can vary tremendously, the latter from 120 inches to 157. 4. lineupthree engines are available: the standard engine for the base-level xl is a 4. 2-liter v6 that generates 202 horsepower. A 4. 6-liter v8 rated at 231 horsepower is optional in xl models and regular cab xlt, and standard in all others. A 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 260 horsepower is available as an option for most f-150s. All three cab styles are offered in xl, xlt, and lariat trim levels; supercabs and supercrews can be promoted to ultimate king ranch status, with leather captain's chairs, premium audio, and unique identification.  i love the supercrew, which features luxurious rear-seat accommodations that can be converted into covered cargo storage. Overall length is kept reasonable by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5 1/2 feet. The bed is a compromise, but it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup that's as long as an aircraft carrier. The top-rung lariat supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with handsome leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and an optional moonroof and rear-seat entertainment system.  for 2002, even base-level xls are air conditioned. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on all lariat models and optional on xl and xlt trim lines. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is now a standard feature on xlt models.  with colors and options thrown in, the model matrix is huge. And this matrix includes some specialty models.  new for 2002 is the fx4 off-road package, which includes 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with exposed lug nuts, rancho-brand shocks, three skid plates, a 3. 55 axle and p265/70r17 white-outline tires. The fx4 package is available only on 4x4 models, but the package price ranges from $620-$1165 depending on trim level and body style.  the high-performance svt lightning, packs a supercharged 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 380 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. Specialized wheels, tires, and suspension are calibrated more for handling than for hauling. This limited production image-generator is available only as a 2wd regular cab on the 120-inch wheelbase.  also available for 2002 is a new limited-edition ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. It features a supercharged 5. 4-liter triton v8 engine, unique styling cues and a new color option: dark shadow grey. The 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is the third truck jointly developed by ford motor company and harley-davidson motor company. (it joins two other limited-edition models: the 2000 ford harley-davidson f-150 super cab and the 2001 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, one that pays more serious attention to aerodynamics than either the dodge or gm pickups. It is rounder, friendlier and looks more like a car than the dodge, chevy, or gmc. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. The current chevrolet and gmc trucks are still pretty new (they were redesigned for the 1999 model year), but their conservative styling doesn't look as modern as the ford's. The dodge ram has been redesigned for 2002, but retains a retro look that won't appeal to everyone (at least not as intensely as it appeals to its die-hard fans).  the f-150's aerodynamic hood falls away very rapidly from the base of the windshield, so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck; that's handy for maneuvering off road, for parking, and when navigating in tight city traffic. Like the ram, however, its fenders seem to fill small rural roads. In tight quarters, this feels like a big truck.  the 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew incorporates styling cues of the past with an innovative flair. The front end of the vehicle features a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the harley-davidson bar & shield. For 2002, a distinct rivet design surrounds the center of the 20x9-inch five-spoke chromed cast-aluminum wheels, complementing the center caps that display the harley-davidson bar & shield. Flame pin striping and chrome accessories complement the overall package. As in the past, the ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is lowered one inch. It features a specially tuned exhaust system with a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler, ending in chrome 3 1/2-inch 'slash cut' exhaust tips. interiorthe f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's successful passenger cars, such as the ford taurus and lincoln continental. The designers adapted these cues to the pickup's larger cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and in some ways better executed than the gm and dodge, big and bold but not outsized for a big vehicle.  the mid-range f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. The xlt's cloth seats recline, and a lumbar support on the driver's side provides even more driving comfort.  all ford pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. Getting into and out of the rear seats was easy. The rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom, allowing passengers to slide their feet under the front seats. Adults should be able to ride back there for longer trips. It's also a nice place to change into and out of driver's suits when we go racing.  supercrew's rear seats fold down (and are split 60/40), offering a nearly flat luggage space. It's a great place to put cargo or big dogs. I like putting all my equipment back there when i go fly fishing. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. This is because they use conventional steel leaf springs at the rear.  up front, the 2wd pickups use a coil-spring independent suspension, while the 4x4 versions use a torsion bar front suspension.  power steering is over-assisted, to make it easier to park and maneuver in tight quarters.  we find the brakes on ford trucks to be average in stopping power and average in fade characteristics.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated 231 horsepower and 293 foot-pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little duff for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. For any customer contemplating those kinds of duties, the 5. 4-liter v8 engine is a much better choice. summaryford's f-150 is still among the most car-like of the full-size pickup trucks, with slick looks, pleasing performance, a comfortable cabin, and a proven powertrain.  ford's new f-150 supercrew is the most comfortable of the light-duty crew cabs currently available. model lineup4x2 styleside 120-in. 2002 volkswagen jetta review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. More horsepower emphasizes the jet in the jetta. introductionthe volkswagen jetta is the best-selling european import on the u. It's available in any guise. Power is up for both the 1. 8t and the vr6. Volkswagen retuned the 1. 8-liter turbocharged engine to produce 180 horsepower. The jetta is also offered as a station wagon, including the gl 2. 0l 17,650); gls 2. 0l 18,700); gls 1. 8t; glx 2. 8l vr6 25,500).  gl is the entry level, providing access to vw's build quality at a reasonable price. And the 34/49 mpg city/highway epa rating is not overstated, according to tdi owners. That's not as claustrophobic as it might seem, as the jetta has large windows. The instrument panel features a large 7500-rpm tachometer (redlined at 6500 rpm) and an optimistic 160-mph speedometer: at 80 mph the needle is straight up. The lettering is white on black in daylight, but at night with the lights on, it changes to the cool blue introduced on the new beetle. The needles and controls are illuminated in an intense red. Most love it, a few hate it. It's a must-see-before-buying item.  the interior is arranged well for the enthusiast driver. The steering wheel has a thick rim shaped well for the hand, and a grippy leather covering. It tilts and telescopes, and the driver's seat ratchets up and down as well as slides fore and aft and reclines with the turn of a knob on the base of seatback. Another twist-knob controls lumbar support. There's a driving position for everyone, without an electric motor in (or out of) sight. The twist-knob recline function allows more precise seat back angle than the more common release lever adjuster, even if it is slower and more difficult to use. Front buckets are well bolstered and deserve to be called sport seats. The hvac controls are simple and easy to use, while the buttons on the excellent monsoon audio are small and somewhat blocked by the cup holder when it's in use. Full latch anchorage systems are provided for two child safety seats as well. The rear seats fold 60/40 for extended luggage capacity, and although they don't lie completely flat, we were able to carry a complete mountain bike (with front wheel dismounted) when the kid decided she wanted it at college after all. The trunk's short lid does open wide, limiting access somewhat, but the trunk is big for this size of car and, with its articulated hinges, it's all usable space.  all-around vision is good, with small pillars and well-placed mirrors. interiorthe jetta looks just as expensive inside as it does outside. That's not as claustrophobic as it might seem, as the jetta has large windows. The trunk's short lid does open wide, limiting access somewhat, but the trunk is big for this size of car and, with its articulated hinges, it's all usable space.  all-around vision is good, with small pillars and well-placed mirrors. driving impressionthere ought to be a rule that jetta gls 1. 8t drivers have an accessible winding road, or else they'll be wasting some of the jetta's finer aspects. The jetta, especially with the 17-inch wheels, 45-series performance tires and sport suspension, gobbles up the twisties like a seven-year old goes after fruit loops. The jetta has lots of lateral grip and the stability to utilize it. Shock absorber damping is compliant but firm, allowing the suspension to react to a bump in mid-corner and be done with it. Transients, left to right and back again, are equally well handled. While the front-drive jetta does not have the precise handling of, say, a bmw, it does not have near the price, either.  the turbocharged engine slings the front-wheel-drive jetta forward with authority. Despite a claim from vw that sound deadening was added to the turbocharger, a faint whistle can be heard as the turbo spools up. Turbo addicts will enjoy it, others won't notice. Instead, the jetta has a broad torque spread. Otherwise the engine bogs for what seems like an eternity as that truck looms in the rear view mirror. The engine, once up on the turbo, is hoot for enthusiast driving, willing to rev smoothly to redline with a clean mechanical sound. It'll blast out of a toll plaza.  the shifter's throw is on the long side, front to back, but close side to side. It's precise and has little slop, and is enjoyable to use, with even clutch take-up with a well-weighted pedal. There is an optional 5-speed automatic that has the porsche-developed tiptronic manual-shifting system, the only car in the class so equipped.  the engine is not just for sporting driving
